Join Jackie Zach and Mike McKay as they explore the concepts of the Law of Connection and the Law of Attraction. The Law of Connection suggests that our internal world and external experiences are closely linked, while the Law of Attraction emphasizes that our thoughts have the power to shape reality. McKay explains that even a small amount of doubt can weaken the effectiveness of these laws, stressing the importance of intentionality and mindset work. Techniques like meditation, visualization, and affirmations can help individuals change their thoughts and, consequently, their outcomes.
McKay shares personal experiences to illustrate the power of mindset, including how he overcame anxiety by consciously shifting his thoughts. He highlights the importance of fully believing in one’s ability to influence the world, as doubt can undermine progress. McKay also touches on leadership, using an example of a client’s frustration with employees to demonstrate how the Law of Attraction and Connection can influence perception and behavior. The episode concludes by reinforcing that people often see what they expect, underscoring the profound impact of internal beliefs on external reality.

Jackie Zach: Welcome back to the Tough Love for Business podcast. I’m your co-host, Jackie Zach, and I’m here with Mike McKay. Today, we’re discussing the Law of Connection and the Law of Attraction. So, Mike, can you tell us about these laws?
Mike McKay: Sure! The Law of Connection is one of the four universal laws of thought. The first is that your thoughts belong to you; no one else creates them. The second is the Law of Change, meaning you can change your thoughts whenever you want. Today, we’re diving into the third and fourth laws—Connection and Attraction. The Law of Connection states that there are two worlds: one inside your mind (your internal world) and one outside (your external world). The key idea is that these worlds are interconnected. If you see the world as dark and difficult internally, that’s likely how you’ll experience it externally as well. The Law of Attraction follows that whatever you focus on in your thoughts will manifest more in your life.
In a mathematical sense, if A equals B and B equals C, then A equals C. So if the Law of Connection links your internal and external worlds, and the Law of Attraction determines what you attract into your life, then it’s clear that your thoughts shape your reality. If you think life is tough, it will be tough. If you believe it’s easier, you’ll find a way through, though challenges will still arise.
Jackie: Exactly.
Mike: The Law of Attraction will give you more of what you consistently focus on.
The challenge, however, is doubt. Even a tiny amount of doubt can interfere with the Law of Attraction. People often struggle with the idea of the Law of Connection because they think things are happening to them, not because of them. Logically, it can be tough to see it any other way.
It’s easy to assume that life’s circumstances are happening to you rather than recognizing that your thoughts, actions, and beliefs are creating those circumstances.
Jackie: Yes, because we’re constantly seeking evidence in the external world that aligns with what we’re thinking internally.
Mike: Exactly, and often, we’re unaware that we’re doing it. Our perception is filtered through our internal beliefs. For example, someone might see the color green, but because they’ve been told it’s red, they’ll label it as red. We can’t tap into someone else’s brain to see their reality, but we do know that people see what they expect to see based on their internal world. So, essentially, whatever you believe is what you create in your life. How cool is that?
Jackie: It’s amazing because it means you have complete control.
Mike: Yes, but there’s a catch—if you have even half a percent of doubt, it can mess things up. You need 100% belief to activate the Law of Attraction. If you think that 95% of the time things are great, but 5% of the time life sucks, you’re still going to attract the negative because the Law of Attraction is always working. It’s like when Santa Claus knows if you’ve been bad or good.
Jackie: So, the takeaway is that if you want to fully harness the Law of Connection and the Law of Attraction, you need to change your thoughts.
Mike: Exactly. You have full control over your thoughts.
Jackie: How fun is that? Speaking of fun…
Mike: It’s like a high-level game. For example, I woke up at 2:30 a.m. today feeling anxious for no reason. I thought, “I have control, so why am I choosing this?” It took me an hour, but eventually, I shifted my focus and went back to sleep. I’m not saying this process is easy—it takes practice. But changing your mindset, using “I am” statements, visualization, and thinking time can help.
As we talked about before, it’s like choosing between walking on the sunny side of the street, where obstacles are visible but manageable, versus going down a dark, dreary tunnel. Meditation and mindset work can help you see that whatever’s happening to you is happening because of you, and it’s happening for you as a lesson. If you don’t like it, do something different.
The search for the lesson might be tough, but it’s necessary if you want a different outcome. You don’t have to change, though—you’re free to live however you want. But if you’re aiming for high-level growth and results in your business, family, and community, you’ll need to put in the effort. The rewards are well worth it.
Jackie: Absolutely. The rewards are immense. And a key part of this is being intentional with your thoughts.
Mike: That’s true. It’s funny, I have a client who sometimes gets extremely frustrated with their employees. It’s often a series of small, unrelated incidents that build up, and by the end of the day, it seems like everyone is messing up. But, if you take a step back, you’ll see that it was just a few isolated mistakes. Instead of getting upset, you could ask, “What’s going on? This isn’t like you.” Maybe they’re going through something personal, or maybe they just had a bad day. The more people you manage, the more random things will happen. The Law of Attraction and the Law of Connection allow you to choose how you interpret these situations. You can either let it ruin your day, or you can acknowledge it and move on.
Most of the time, choosing to see it as “weird” rather than “people suck” is more empowering. People don’t wake up to disappoint you. No one starts their day hoping you’ll hate them by the end of it. Yet, some business owners end the day thinking their employees are incompetent. It’s a reflection of their mindset. Next time, we’ll discuss how to develop C-level players in your business.
Jackie: Yes, that sounds great. I’m looking forward to it. Until next time, have a great day!
